Hello, Janine - Awesome website! Just keeps getting better and better every year. I especially like the "audio clip" feature, being able to hear one of my all-time favorites: Buddy MacMaster! Best wishes for another successful summer!

Hi Janine! Here's my review of the CD I posted on the Texas Scottish Festival forum board: The Ceilidh Trail School holds I believe a one week session in the summer, and this cd captures some of that. There are students from varying levels, and teachers/pros. They have morning and afternoon classes/sessions, then a kindofa freeforall every evening (ceilidh, lol). [One of my fave tracks is #10 - Johnny Wilmot Set Schooner Pub Session (students go crazy). I swear that's what it says from the cd cover!] As I understand it, Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia is a home for Celtic music preservation, in particular Scottish fiddling, and has to do with the migration from Scotland. The recording quality is excellent, including 13 tracks of jigs, reels and strathespey. The talent includes: Buddy MacMaster Brenda Stubbert John Campbell Dougie MacDonald Neil Beaton Frank Ferrel Liz Doherty Chris Duncan !! :-) Kathy Fraser Joey Beaton Katherine Strutt Janine Randall school director Scott Macmillan Brian Doyle Pius MacIsaac 4th year students I like it because it's fun, well done, and gives me a glimpse into a Scottish fiddling camp. Being so new to study, it both gives me something to aspire to as well as something to relax and enjoy to. I of course have been captivated by a tune that rivals my captivation to "I Once Loved A Lass" (sorry, Mark of Brothers3, lol) and that is Chris Duncan playing "Slow Air from The Aran Islands". Chris is a highly accomplished fiddler whose playing is so touching, emotional, accurate, harmonic, dynamic, dedicated, gentle and powerful, and inviting, oh heck you just gotta hear it for yourself!! lol This is the first time I've heard of him but I hope not the last! Royce and Carole's daughter went to the school last year, lucky girl! Janine, the director, and I have been corresponding in connection with my cd order; it was sold out, but she found a stray one for me! The cd is titled "Summer Sessions on the Ceilidh Trail (One Summer from the Ceilidh Trail School of Music, Cape Breton Island)". My grateful thanks to everyone at that Summer Session and all the sessions for doing an outstanding job on the cd, as well as the study, teaching, fun and promoting Scottish fiddling, well done! I myself am a first year student, going to enter a competition in June (eek), thanks for giving me inspiration!!

Janine, and all the instructors; Thanks so much for all your efforts!! It was worth driving across the continent to attend the school this summer. I hope to attend again in a few years. Hearing Buddy MacMaster play every day during the week of school was an incredible experience.
